Single stained glass cicada wing created using clear textured iridescent glass. I had encountered my first cicada about 15 years ago and have been fascinated with them ever since. This handcrafted insect wing measures 10 inches long by 3 1/4 inches wide, 26 cm by 8 cm.
All of the glass pieces have been hand cut using clear iridescent granite textured glass which gives of soft hues of color similar to gasoline on water. Interesting in the day with any sunlight shining through it as the glass sparkles but also after dark when artificial light really makes the iridescence highly reflective. Assembled in the Tiffany method using copper foil and solder, the entire wing has then been wrapped with a type of lead channel framing for strength. Two loops have been soldered to the wing so that it can be hanged either vertically or horizontally. A small amount of chain with be included for hanging this piece.
