Single stained glass cicada wing created using clear highly reflective iridescent glass. Current glass textures available are wavy Aqualite glass and rougher granite glass, both from the Wissmach Glass Company in Paden, West Virginia, USA,
I had encountered my first cicada about 18 years ago and have been fascinated with them ever since. These handcrafted insect wings measures 10 1/2 inches long by 3 1/2 inches wide, 26 cm by 9 cm.
All of the glass pieces have been hand cut and assembled in the Tiffany method using copper foil and solder, the entire wing has then been wrapped with a type of lead channel framing for strength. A single loop has been soldered to the wing with a small amount of chain included for hanging.
